Microdermabrasion  Facial’s, great for acne and anti – aging

Teenage acne or dry aging skin? Putting it simply, Microdermabrasion is a facial treatment that could work for you, your teenage child and everyone in between.

It means, the removal of dead skin cells that build up over time on the uppermost area of your skin. It’s called the Horny layer (no sniggers please) or Stratum Corneum for those that like the details.

The skin is the largest organ of your body and we really do need to be looking after it. Of all its many functions, protection is one of them. It acts as a waterproof barrier against all kinds micro-organisms such as bacteria and we need these uppermost layers of skin for that armour.

However, if this last layer of dead skin cells is left, it builds up and up over time leaving your skin feeling dull, rough to touch, dry, and can cause blockages and congestion.

Furthermore, this natural barrier will be preventing your facial creams, lotions and potions from cleansing or hydrating properly. So, whether you spend £5 or £50 on your creams, they won’t be working no where near as well with a thick layer of dead, skin cell barrier sucking it up!

So, how does MD help?

At Wendy Simmons Beauty Salon we use the Diamond Microdermabrasion method. It is a progressive rather than aggressive treatment, during which you’ll feel completely relaxed and pampered with no discomfort from the facial.

Diamond Microdermabrasion is a treatment designed to improve the overall appearance and quality of the skin, based on the dual actions of exfoliation and adjustable vacuum stimulation, the Silhouette Diamond Dermabrasion system exfoliates dead skin cells from the skins surface, deep cleanses the pores, stimulating local blood circulation and boosting fresh collagen production. The treatment creates a firmer, fresher and more even complexion that will continually improve your skins appearance and texture.

With each of your subsequent treatments, the intensity of the facial microdermabrasion can be increased – reaching to deeper layers and successfully removing acne scarring, lifting pigmentation and smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.

 

The treatment time is 30 minutes and we recommend a course of 6 treatments or as many as 20 every 7-10 days. However, this would very much depend on your skin’s needs and target areas.  After a course of treatments we suggest a maintenance treatment every 4-5 weeks. However, even after 1 treatment the results are superb and your skin feels smoother instantly. So even as a stand alone treatment for a special occasion, it’s a winner!

Who is it for?

Anyone can have this treatment! And most skin types. Although there are a few contra-indications which will always be discussed before you even arrive at the salon. This treatment is excellent for teenage skins that are blackhead prone to fine lines and dehydration. It’s also good in rejuvenating  and healing scar tissue and fading pigmentation marks. Is it all too good to be true?

No! Not at all. We’ve seen some great results in the salon, in fact Therapists across the country share their before and after

pictures all the time. Proving time and time again that it’s not just a one trick pony.

Aftercare is an important part of the Microdermabrasion treatment. One of the key areas is protecting you skin with a good quality Sun Protection Factor (SPF) cream afterwards. We suggest a minimum of 25 SPF.

The reason for this is to give your skin added protection from the sun’s UV rays. This is because we gentle exfoliate the uppermost layer of the skin that offers some of that protection. If your problem areas are pigmentation or age spots, then it’s even more important to protect your skin with a high SPF. This will reduce the pigmentation from darkening again.

How much is it going to cost me?

Prices obviously vary from salon to salon but you can expect to pay somewhere in the region of £30 – £60 for individual treatments.
